PESA and TESA - solutions for male infertility

PESA & TESA

PESA and TESA are two ways to collect sperm from men who have trouble having babies. In PESA, a doctor uses a small needle to get sperm from the part near the testicles called the epididymis. TESA is when sperm is taken straight from the testicles. These are quick and safe methods, generally used when a man has no sperm in his semen. The sperm is then used in special treatments like IVF to help couples have a baby.

PESA - Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm aspiration, TESA - Testicular Sperm Aspiration, both refer to surgical sperm retrieval techniques used to treatment for male infertility. These methods are particularly preferred when sperm can’t be retrieved through ejaculation.

Our Procedure for PESA & TESA Will Include:

    PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration):

  • A local anesthetic is given to numb the scrotal area, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure.
  • A thin needle is carefully inserted through the scrotal skin to reach the epididymis (a tube-like structure located at the back of the testicle).
  • Once the needle is in place, a small amount of fluid containing sperm is gently aspirated from the epididymis.
  • The collected fluid is immediately examined in the lab to check for the presence of sperm.
  • If sperm are found, they are collected and prepared for storage.
  • The collected sperm are then stored in a specialized facility, where they can be frozen and preserved for future use.
  • TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration):

  • Under sedation, a fine needle is inserted through the scrotal skin into the testicular tissue. Gentle suction is used to retrieve sperm directly from the testicles.
  • The aspirated sample is sent to the lab, where it’s examined for the presence of sperm.
  • In the lab, a selected sample was carefully examined under a microscope to identify and isolate sperm.
  • If there are multiple sperm available, they can be frozen and stored for future use, reducing the need for repeated procedures.
  •             After PESA & TESA, if any mild discomfort occurs, it typically resolves in 1-2 days. PESA and TESA methods help men with low or absent sperm production due to testicular failure or genetic conditions. These methods also allow couples to pursue biological parenthood without corrective surgery. Offers a way to access viable sperm for assisted reproductive techniques like ICSI. By successfully performing these advanced procedures, Dr. Aravind's IVF continues to uphold its reputation as one of the Best Fertility Center.
